Films: Dead Sushi (2012)

Summary: Japan can come up with some…weird…concepts for horror films, especially those of the comedic variety. But why has it taken us so long to come up with a killer fast-food movie? They've already got us beat with murderous seafood.

History: A disgraced employee at Komatsu Pharmaceuticals turns out to be a mad scientist. He's decided to get back at his employers by injecting their sushi with a special serum that turns the food items onto bloodthirsty, toothy, rapidly-breeding monsters. With the Dead Sushi army rising, only a sushi chef apprentice/martial artist and her allies can stand in the way of tasty Armageddon.

Notable Kills: All of them. Equal parts absurd and horrific. The main image, anybody?

Final Fate: Our heroine, aided by an outcast Dead Sushi named Eggy, finishes off the threat when the latter subdues the army's vanguard, a fish-headed warrior. She kicks him into the sky along with most of the brood, causing them to explode. The day is saved!

Powers/Abilities: Explosive breeding, flight, combining into larger forms.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 3-On one hand, it's killer sushi. The premise alone just highlights how ridiculous this affair is. And not all of the sushi is necessarily after people. But when they are, it's a gory frenzy. It still doesn't take away from shoddy effects or the sheer fact that we cannot take that otherwise efficient fish-man seriously at all.

Trivia: -This film was directed by Noboru Iguchi, perhaps the king of absurd and gory Japanese horror flicks. His other works include "Mutant Girls Squad" and "Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead".

-The main protag of this film was played by Rina Takeda, whose roles mostly take advantage of her martial artist ability, even from a young age.
